Come frolic in the cold with us! We’re seeking volunteers to help us remove brush at Snyder Heritage Farm (10 minutes northeast of Ankeny)!
Winter can be a great time to work in the outdoors — no bugs, no humidity and no dense brush to work around. We promise hot drinks and a truly beautiful winter landscape!
This is an opportunity to explore an area not usually open to the public — an oasis not far from the Des Moines metro. When we’re not running the chainsaws, it’s a peaceful getaway unique with prairie, wetland, woodland and oak savanna habitat.
Brush removal involves using various hand tools (handsaws or loppers) to manually cut the brush from the land. Participants may also work next or with a certified chain sawyer who will also be cutting brush. No experience is necessary. All volunteers are encouraged to work at their own pace.

Please RSVP for directions (below).

We recommend wearing layers, boots with warm socks and equipping yourself in gear that you don’t mind getting dirty or scratched up. Please bring water and lined winter work gloves (fear not, we will have some spares available). Wear a hat you could put under a helmet.
