Clean and Green First Grade Program

Keep Iowa Beautiful presents the Clean and Green First Grade Program. The Clean and Green program is flexible; it has engaging activities for the classroom, afterschool and summer programs. Each activity can stand alone, but the guide will be more powerful if used as a comprehensive unit. During this pilot year, we are collecting feedback from as many people as possible, and changing the program guide in response. Send feedback to Martha McCormick, NextStepAdventure.com.

Thanks to the Waste Commission of Scott County, Character Counts! in Iowa, Davenport Public and parochial schools for help in developing and piloting the program. The 20 activities in the Clean and Green First Grade Matrix is based on the Common Core First Grade Standards for Mathematics, Life Science, Social Studies, Literacy and 21st Century Skills. The Four Keys of Character Education from the 2005 Smart and Good High School Report–safe, challenging community, self study, other study and public performance–as the other axis of the matrix to assure that Clean and Green gives teachers the tools to incorporate best practice into their classrooms.
