2010 Community Beautification Grants

The deadline has now passed for this round of KIB's Community Beautification Grants funded through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.  KIB received over $1.2 million in requests for this latest round of awards which will be announced soon.  There was only $80,000 in available grant dollars to award.  Watch this website for information on another application deadline after January 2011.  

Awards for 2010 include:

Beautification Projects

Rolfe Enrichment - $3,500 for improving the site of the local Farmer's Market.

Central City Historical Society - $207 for Clean Up of the Library Museum in partnership with an Eagle Scout project.

Truro Revitalization Priorities Commission - $4,500 for a year-round gardening project in Reed Park.

City of Mt. Ayr - $4,500 for the Historic Square Streetscape and Vintage Lighting Project

City of Oakville Park Committee - $860 for new community entrance signage & planter box.

Woodbine Main Street & City of Woodbine - $4,200 for a rain garden feature at the rehabilitated 1928 canopy gas station which is a community meeting space.

City of Wellman - $3,500 for beautification projects in four city parks and a new entrance sign to the main park.

Faith in Action Volunteers (Sidney, IA) - $1,500 to continue and expand the Youth Beautification Corps program.

City of Blue Grass - $1,200 for recycled park benches and trash receptacles along the Blue Grass Trail.

Derelict Building Projects

Bloomfield Main Street - $10,500 to stabilize and renovate the historic Nulton Building on the city Square.

Garland Hotel Restoration Board - $6,500 for continued work on restoring the Garland Hotel in Beford, Iowa.

City of Ogden - $6,500 for improvements to the downtown area by demolishing 3 buildings that have deteriorated beyond repair.

City of Sibley - $6,500 for repair/replacement of a building roof in downtown Sibley.

City of Fonda - $6,500 to demolish 5 buildings within a 2 block area on Main Street.

City of Manning - $6,500 to demolish two side-by-side houses to make way for a site for future housing.

Hoo Doo Days Celebration - $6,500 for the Phoenix Theatre Restoration Project in Neola, Iowa.


Request for Proposals Being Accepted Now

Keep Iowa Beautiful wants to understand further the attitudes and opinions Iowa residents have toward the following areas:

The Bottle Bill, Waste Collection & Recycling, Litter Prevention/Illegal Dumping and Keep Iowa Beautiful. 

A study or review team will be established by Keep Iowa Beautiful to assist in guiding and advising on the research. Vendor proposals to conduct the research are being accepted now.  Click here for the complete RFP.
