Iowa schools spend over $3,336,000 every year on litter clean up. This is $6.37 per child that could be used to improve education in the state of Iowa. Schools are experiencing a "disconnect" with their surrounding neighborhoods. The Goal To make every school campus in Iowa "clean and green" and a partner with adjacent neighborhoods. Ten charter schools have already successfully implemented the program. Your school could be next! School programs that keep the campus clean and partner with the neighborhood build pride in a community and teach students and neighbors the importance of working together. Pick It Up - Fix It Up - Paint It Up Pick It Up - pick up litter and trash from the school grounds or neighboring properties. Have your school or a class "adopt" an area to keep clean - a park, roadway or street, neighborhood, river or lake shoreline or other park area or public property. Fix It Up - repair fences; move dirt or debris; plant trees, shrubs or flowers; help make improvements to a neighboring home or building. Paint It Up - help paint a home in the neighborhood, buildings on the school grounds, fencing, etc. Resource Connections Our staff can connect you with local recycling coordinators, waste exchange representatives, Character Counts networks, community enhancement groups and green building professionals to guide and support you on your way to an environmentally-friendly and responsible campus.
