Gerry Schnepf has served as Executive Director of Keep Iowa Beautiful since early 2000. After graduate school from the Univ. of Minn., Gerry served as Chief of Planning for 10 years with the Provincial Parks system in Manitoba, Canada. Through his efforts, the park system expanded and was upgraded significantly. He then became the planning director for the Iowa Conservation Commission (now the Department of Natural Resources). Planning for State facilities was initiated along with significant growth and support efforts to the County Conservation Board system in Iowa. He then became the founding president of the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation (INHF). The organization is nationally prominent in significant land preservation activities. Through his efforts with INHF, trail system development was initiated and significant river corridor planning programs were initiated. He is a board member and has served in various roles on several nonprofit organizations i.e. board member and consultant to the French Icarian Colony Foundation, founding board member of Salisbury House Foundation, founder of the Salisbury Automobile Classic, advisory board member, board member and past president of Silos and Smokestacks and currently is the president of the Iowa Transportation Museum in Grinnell. He is the president of MotorMemories, Inc. - the provider of some of the largest and longest vintage vehicle tours in the United States. Other activities included pre-retirement planning services for business and corporations.


 

 

Bill Jackson

Bill Jackson has served as Associate Director of Keep Iowa Beautiful since 2000. Bill earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Drake University in Des Moines. He was administrative assistant to former Governor Robert D. Ray for more than nine years, and was Program Director and Station Manager of television station WHO in Des Moines. In 1986, Bill was named by Governor Terry E. Branstad to direct the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, one of the 23 newly reorganized state agencies. Its divisions included the Iowa Arts Council, which he also served as Executive Director, and the State Historical Society of Iowa. Bill is a member of the Des Moines Symphony Board of Directors, Arts Midwest Board, Des Moines Rotary Club and the Gold Star Museum. He is past president of the Salvation Army Board of Directors, treasurer of the Chinese Cultural Center of America and member of the Iowa Sister State Committee, the Greater Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, the Des Moines United Way Campaign Committee and the Iowa Broadcasters Association.


 

 

Julie Bailey

Julie M. Bailey joined the KIB staff in 2010 as Director of Advancement Services. Julie was the Community Development Coordinator for the Iowa Arts Council for 26 years and has extensive experience working with grants, community development and event planning. She most recently served as the Program Director for the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce and prior to that was the Executive Director for the Bob Feller Museum in Van Meter. Julie lives in rural Dallas County and is actively involved in breeding and raising American Quarter Horses for the show ring.

 


 

Jim McDonald

Jim McDonald became a Private Investigator in 1989.  Throughout the years  his assignments have included criminal defense work in Class A Felonies including murders, kidnappings and other crimes. He has done undercover work and extensive work locating missing persons. In preparation for his work with Keep Iowa Beautiful, Jim travelled to Missouri to observe firsthand how Missouri officials dealt with illegal dumping surveillance.  He also conferred with officials in numerous other states before helping Keep Iowa Beautiful establish an illegal dumping program. Jim is also a collector of antique automobiles and has been involved in numerous car clubs, automobile events and judging over the years.

Martha McCormick grew up in California, moved to Iowa in 1968, and earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education. She developed health, literacy, art and science programs for Iowa State University until 2006 when she founded Next Step to help organizations increase their impact through creativity, partnership, and fun. McCormick writes a blog, facilitates training, assesses outcomes and develops programs in areas of social justice, culture and health.
