Teacher Training

Martha McCormick is offering a Webinar this Friday, January 20, 2012 through the Iowa Afterschool Alliance. To join the Webinar, follow this link. Choose "Enter as a Guest." To call-in to the conference line, please dial 1-800-444-2801 and use passcode 6592625.
Clean and Green is free to schools and community organizations.

Martha will also facilitate a workshop at Winter Solstice, presented by the Iowa Conservation Education Coalition at Honey Creek Resort State Park near Moravia, IA on February 3-5, 2012. The workshop will provide an in-depth hands-on experience with lessons and learning from Clean and Green. There will also be opportunities for participants to provide feedback on service-learning in the intermediate, middle, and secondary grades.

Along with Governor Branstad, Keep Iowa Beautiful would like your help establishing a benchmark for Service Learning in Iowa communities. Please complete this survey by February 29, 2012, to help us get a clearer picture of how service learning is being used to—
• Expand learning opportunities through community options that connect students with
their dreams
• Increase community engagement in every school in Iowa
We are asking for input from—
• Superintendents, principals, and teachers of Grades 6-12
• Faculty, students and administrators in higher education
• Youth development and other community organizations

We welcome other ideas for training. Keep Iowa Beautiful works with the Environmental Issues Instruction program at the University of Northern Iowa. That program emphasizes multidisciplinary environmental issues instruction leading to responsible environmental action. Gerry Schnepf is working with the program to instill service learning into the syllabus.
